Beaver tour 20-04-16
This evening I had the pleasure of taking out a group of 3, Darren, his wife Jackie and Darren's uncle, Ian. It was such a beautiful evening and I was ever hopeful of having decent sightings. After sitting at one normally busy feeding station, it became apparent that we were not going to "luck out" there. We moved further up the river and as we approached where we were planning to sit, we were treated to a tail splash from a beaver right below us. A bit gutted at not getting a decent sighting, we moved to the new viewing point. I left the group briefly to check a few more hotspots but no joy. Thankfully though, by the time I returned an animal had shown face and the group managed a few pics but the light was working against us. Another animal then appeared and we tracked it down the river again but he/she twigged us and gave us the beaver equivalent of 2 fingers, another tail splash!!! This was like revisiting those damn Green Woodpeckers, fleeting glimpses and I'm sure I heard one go "yaffa yaffa yaffa".
We decided to head up the river a bit as it was getting dark. I showed the group a couple of good places to sit if they returned and sure enough, a bloody beaver was sitting on the bank and dived into the river as we approached. It was a very frustrating evening with a lovely group, just wish those animals could have showed a bit more. However, that's nature and we did get sightings.
