Nature Nuts Woodland hide
I must admit when I set up the hide at the end of winter, I never expected as much wildlife to visit. Some of the beasties and birdies are regulars but there have been more than a few unexpected appearances from a variety of species. I think we have counted over 50 species that have been seen from the hide area since April. The regular appearance of at least one Pine Marten is an obvious attraction despite timings being a bit irregular.
We have had multiple Jay visits recently by upwards of 10 birds. We have also had and are having regular Sparrowhawk visits taking out the said Jays and other birds.
The wee reds are a treat to watch as well. Witnessing them chasing the Jays is hilarious to say the least and there is no apparent love lost either. Currently we have roughly 5 squirrels visiting, two in particular are stunning with really dark coats. Cheeky wee devils so they are!!!!
Here are some pics of some of our other visitors, Wren, Woodmouse and Bullfinch
Chaffinch, Brambling and Coal Tit
Goldfinch, Woodpeckers and Siskin
Robin, Greenfinch and Blue Tit
Red Kite, Dunnock and Vinnie the vole
Dragonfly, Treecreeper and Spotted Flycatcher
There have obviously been other sightings as well, including Cuckoos, Hares, Crossbill, Willow Warbler, Goldcrest, Fallow and Roe Deer, Tree Pippits, Redwing and Fieldfare, Red Legged Partridge, Pheasant, Buzzards, Crows, Jackdaws, Wood Pigeon, Great Tit and Blackcap among many others. We even had a Goshawk take out one of my woodpeckers.....God it was blooming quick. Along at the nearby pond you can see Damselflies, Newts, frogs and toads plus a Grey Heron or two having a feed. I think most people that have paid a visit to the hide have been impressed at the amount of varied activity of the local wildlife, I know I have.
