Nature Nuts

From Dawn to Dusk

Nature Nuts had a great outing today with 3 guests from East Kilbride; Ed, Fiona and Billy. A long day for my guests, 0500 – 2200 but hopefully one they enjoyed. First on the list was the old favourite, Carn Aosda for the hares and ptarmigan. Both were spotted, the former in droves, the latter in lesser numbers but always a joy to see. At the top we had the traditional wee dram (Highland Park in this instance) to celebrate our ascent.

Ed the lucky devil, who was slightly behind the main party, spotted a Golden Eagle. Other sightings consisted of Pippits, Swallows, Red Grouse, Ravens, Crows and a large herd of Red Deer in the distance. I must admit I was quite proud of my party in reaching the dizzy heights of Carn Aosda, not a massive Munro but still a first for Ed and Fiona. The scenery was enjoyed by all.

After a cuppa and a hot roll in the Glenshee café we headed to a local moor. On arriving the first sighting, though brief, was a female Hen Harrier. We then headed to Bamff to check out the recent beaver workings.

A good few Darters and Dragonflies were evident, brilliant beasties to witness.

Then off to a hidden gem, this gorgeous waterfall.

From there we headed to a few local hides. All were quite quiet but we did get a few birds

To finish the day we went to the river to see the beavers. Other sightings were heron, crows, whitethroat and a kingfisher.
